Hello. My name is Jing Min. I live in Singapore.

If you know me you’ll know I’m pretty luosuo (Mandarin for long-winded). Here I spare you the lengthy discourse on myself, but you can find it in my first post.

My love for markets started way back in early childhood, from TV programmes and parents who made markets at the top of every sightseeing list. Now I’m older and more prone to intellectualising and romanticising everything (I ran a podcast as living proof of this). Markets, these rough and unvarnished places, are also often places of pure authenticity – culture is unapologetically local and makes no effort to be accessible, comprehensible, dumbed down.

On my visits I won’t proclaim to present to you an accurate picture of the history, culture and society. What I will offer is my experience in all its rawness, often as an outsider, but perhaps opening just a window to the story of a place and people.
